Composer 3D View Crash

Composer 1.2.12 and earlier relies on OpenGL compatibility profile to draw.
You may encounter issues due to incompatible OpenGL environment or new driver updates.
Sometimes a workaround implemented in Composer to make it work on an older driver version does not work on newer ones.
This page documents known issues for current and previous versions of Composer.

Windows Event Viewer

You may start troubleshooting on Windows by looking at cause of the crash using the ‘Event Viewer’.

  1. Start menu → Windows Administrative Tools → Event Viewer
  2. On the left pane, Windows Logs → Application
  3. On the list in the middle, select the relevant Composer crash event
  4. Click on the Details tab

MacOS 11 Big Sur

The latest release of MacOS 11 (Big Sur) has a major change to its OpenGL and 3D graphics support from previous versions.
Composer 1.2.12 cannot run on the new 3D graphics framework of MacOS 11.
Compatibility to run on MacOS 11 will be looked into for future release of Composer.

Current Solutions

  1. Use Windows version of Composer in Wine
  2. Use Windows or Linux virtual machine
  3. Remain on MacOS 10

Windows Crash on Restore after Minimizing

When running Windows 10 with Intel graphics chipset, minimizing Composer to taskbar and restoring Composer causes crash.
This is a known issue that has been fixed on Composer 1.2.12.
