Bachmaier introduced a fully digital manufacturing processes back in 2006 and like much of the hearing sector have not looked back. Today the company is pushing boundaries and lowering the bar of accessibility with their new range of Snug Earmolds, designed to provide a custom interface to the well-known Apple Airpod.
Bachmaier understood that to enter the custom wearables sector they must be able to manufacture the Snug Earmold cost effectively. To do this Bachmaier needed to bypass some traditional processing steps. The main one is injectable silicone into a 3D printed mould. Could they 3D print directly in a flexible material? They found the desired material properties with a material from Henkel – Loctite 3D 3843. Adopting a direct-to-print process saved Bachmaier time, cost and provided an avenue to manufacture a fully customised wearable at an affordable price-point.
The Snug Earmold manufacturing process starts with a scan of the customer’s ear or impression. The raw 3D scan data is transformed into a fully customised design which is then 3D printed on the Asiga PRO 4K80 UV in Loctite 3D 3843.
