This article addresses the critical challenge of rapid and reliable on-site characterization of liquid Chemical Warfare Agents (CWAs) following a suspected incident, a process often hampered by the practical and safety limitations of current detection methodologies. To overcome these hurdles, the researchers introduce a novel 3D-printed glass liquid cell specifically designed for use with Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS). This innovative cell is engineered to mitigate the practical difficulties associated with field-based liquid spectral analysis, allowing for the safe, efficient, and rapid analysis of potentially highly toxic liquid samples directly at the site of contamination.

The core benefit of the 3D-printed glass cell, produced using Asiga technology, lies in its unique combination of safety and practicality. Being single-use, it eliminates the risk of cross-contamination and the hazardous cleaning procedures required for reusable components, thus ensuring the safety of personnel handling the toxic compounds.
