Leveraging the Asiga MAX UV for Full Arch Rehab

We’re Dental Artistry Implants Crowns and Veneers, owned by Dr. Alexander Smith and Dr. Tom Spoonster. My name is Jonathan Bourke and I am the Director of the Lab. We are a comprehensive care dental practice with a focus on All-On-X full mouth rehabilitation. We are focused on utilizing the most advanced digital technology and techniques for dental care, and our goal is to keep all of our work completed with our in-house lab from surgery all the way to delivering our final restorations.

"We always knew we wanted to be a primarily digital practice."

When I started here it was all analog. We were doing traditional denture setups in wax and processing in the Ivoclar Ivobase, and then doing analog chairside conversions over titanium temporary cylinders to perform same day all-on-x surgery. We knew there had to be a better way and it was obvious that going digital was the way forward. Now all of our work is completed digitally and produced with either a 3D printer or mill. Now we utilize strong CAD software like Exocad, photogrammetry, intra-oral scanning alongside lab scanning, 3D printing, and milling.

The Asiga Max UV was our first major digital purchase and it completely changed our practice overnight. We were able to start almost completely eliminating outside lab fees because we were able to 3D print so much. We started off printing things like nightguards, surgical guides, and immediate dentures, but we quickly moved on to printing our same day all-on-x provisionals alongside provisional crown and bridge.

"I like to use and experiment with a lot of different resins, and that is one of the things that I love about the Asiga so much."

The Asiga Max is an absolute workhorse. It’s reliable, accurate, and easy to use. It has an incredibly large library of validated resins so it’s very easy to stay up to date in the ever-evolving world of new resins. We plan on having at least one Asiga Max UV at every practice we open, and multiple at our main lab.

I think additive manufacturing is going to move closer and closer to being able to replace milling as the option for a final restoration. I think titanium printing, while in its infancy now, is going to be an absolute game changer. I look forward to the day when we’ll be using 3D printers to manufacture a product that is just as strong and aesthetic as zirconia, or maybe even zirconia itself.
